We’re still in need of volunteers to assist at the Roscoe Village Burger Fest beer tents from 6pm - 10pm this Saturday and Sunday. Sign up for a 4-hour shift and have fun slinging beers while supporting our chamber and the Roscoe Village community! You can also sign up to volunteer at the Lakeview Taco Fest beer tents on Sept. 18 and 19!

Step Sessions Jazz Pop-Up Concert at Lakeview Low-Line Southport Station
Enjoy a jazz pop-up concert at the Lakeview Low-Line Southport Station from 1pm - 3pm on Sunday, September 5! This event is funded by SSA 27 and organized by jazz guitarist, Lee Rothenberg, a professional musician who has performed at the Green Mill, Jazz Showcase, and The Chicago Jazz Festival. These concerts will feature guest stars, including some of the most talented jazz musicians in the city. They are kid-friendly with a special pre-show performance for youngsters on select show dates.

The Small Business Advocacy Council (SBAC) and the Illinois Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives held a joint forum with Senate President Don Harmon, Senator Sims, and Senator Castro. This session allowed Senate leadership to field questions from chamber executives. Senate leadership also discussed policies that will help small businesses and local communities recover from the pandemic.

SSA 27 Funded Programs Paint Southport And A Very Harry Celebration Are Coming Up
We have two exciting programs coming up as part of the SSA 27 Community Events & Placemaking Grant program. Paint Southport, taking place this Sat, 8/21, is a one-day plein air competition featuring Chicago artists drawing and painting the summer scenery along the Southport Corridor. A Very Harry Back to School Celebration is on Aug. 28 & 29 featuring a scavenger hunt, wizarding classes, quidditch and more!
Chicago Department of Public Health Announces New Indoor Mask Mandate
The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) announced that it will re-institute a face mask mandate for all indoor public settings as the average number of new daily cases of COVID-19 in Chicago surpasses 400. All individuals aged 2 and over, regardless of their vaccination status, will be required to wear a mask as of Friday, August 20, while indoors in public settings.

The federal government created the Employee Retention Credit (ERC) in response to the detrimental effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on small businesses. As part of the CARES Act, the ERC offers tax credits to encourage more businesses to retain employees during the pandemic.

U.S. Senate Passes $1 Trillion Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill
The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the needs and vulnerabilities of our nation’s 30 million small businesses, particularly those in under-resourced communities. A recent survey by Small Business Majority revealed that 19% of small business owners say their business conditions are declining compared to the previous month, and 27% of businesses reported they may not survive past the next six months without additional funding or market changes. Moreover, women and entrepreneurs of color were disproportionately denied the full COVID federal relief funding they needed to help their businesses stay afloat.
