SSA 27 Funded Programs Paint Southport And A Very Harry Celebration Are Coming Up
We have two exciting programs coming up as part of the SSA 27 Community Events & Placemaking Grant program. Paint Southport, taking place this Sat, 8/21, is a one-day plein air competition featuring Chicago artists drawing and painting the summer scenery along the Southport Corridor. A Very Harry Back to School Celebration is on Aug. 28 & 29 featuring a scavenger hunt, wizarding classes, quidditch and more!
Paint Southport
Paint Southport will be on Saturday, August 21 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Southport Ave from Byron to Roscoe!
The public will watch as the artists set-up and paint or draw the neighborhood scenery in real time. Together, artists and spectators will be immersed in the creative process, enjoying the neighborhood scenery and watching how the artists interpret it. Visitors to the event will see artists lining the streets to paint as they did 100 years ago in Paris; see the paintings come to life before their eyes; enjoy the businesses and restaurants on Southport; and decide to buy a work of art, or be inspired to create!
Painting will start at 1:00 p.m. At 4:00 p.m., artists will put down their brushes, frame their work, and bring it to the parking lot at 5/3 Bank at Addison and Southport, to be judged for four awards: Best of Show; Second Place; Honorable Mention; and a 'People's Choice' award, voted on by event visitors. The judge will review the work both during its creation and in final form. Finished paintings on display at the end of the event's may be sold directly to the public by the artists.
