Friendly Reminder to Keep Your Sidewalks Shoveled
With winter officially here, please remember to clear your sidewalks of snow and ice to ensure the safety of customers, residents, and visitors in Lakeview and Roscoe Village.
Shoveling your sidewalks is the law, and it is our responsibility to each other during the winter. Chicagoans of all ages and abilities need to use the sidewalks to get where they're going every day of the year. Many children, older adults, and people with disabilities face serious mobility challenges in wintertime, so your compliance is appreciated.
Per the Municipal Code of Chicago (4-4-310 & 10-8-180), property owners and occupants are responsible for keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice. A five-foot-wide path should be shoveled along the sidewalk, including sidewalk ramps. Businesses that do not comply can face fines of up to $1,000 per day of violation. To learn more about your snow shoveling obligations, please visit the City of Chicago's sidewalk snow removal page.
Together we can ensure that Lakeview and Roscoe Village are navigable for everyone this winter. Thank you in advance for your compliance.
Sincerely,
The Lakeview Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce
