The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office Community Justice Centers North & Center: Gun Violence Awareness: Causes, Effect, Prevention
About this event
The Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office is committed to working with our community partners. Because we work so closely with our partners, when there is a concern in the community, we can work together to address their needs. Gun violence is an urgent, complex, and multifaceted problem. Research has been done to figure out ways to reduce the incidents of gun violence – whether by homicide, suicide, or mass shootings – nationwide. Prevention efforts guided by research on developmental risk can reduce the likelihood that firearms will be introduced into community and family conflicts or criminal activity.
The State’s Attorney’s Office continues to work towards and is committed to creating safer and healthier communities by using prosecutorial resources and supporting reforms that avoid needlessly bringing people into the justice system. Our office provides effective alternatives to traditional prosecution and incarceration of non-violent offenders.
Reducing incidents of gun violence arising from criminal misconduct is an important goal of primary prevention and intervention strategies. Such strategies must also attend to redirecting developmental processes that contribute to gun violence and gun-related deaths.
This webinar will feature presenters from a variety of organizations that address gun violence. Moms On a Mission 28, Kids Off The Block, GRO, CCSAO Victim Witness, and the Department of Public Health. Panelists will provide information about the role their respective organizations take in addressing gun violence. They will discuss some of the causes, effects, and programing provided aimed at the prevention of gun violence.
