The City of Chicago Nonprofit Capacity Building Program

The Chicago Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection (BACP) has launched The City of Chicago Nonprofit Capacity Building Program (NCBP). This program was designed to provide access to curated coaching and education programs for Chicago area nonprofits in an effort to support nonprofit organizations gain access to capital, funding, and other resources to counteract the effects of the pandemic. 

  • Webinars: Webinars are hosted twice a month and feature different topics related to applying for grant opportunities. 

    • Upcoming events: 

      • Friday, April 21st - Noon Fundraising 101 for Nonprofits 

      • Thursday, April 27th - Noon From Strategy to Budget 

  • Workshops: Held weekly, workshops provide an opportunity to connect with your peers and subject matter experts to discuss specific organization challenges.

    • Upcoming events: Weekly on Wednesdays at 11:00am 

  • One-on-one counseling: A one-on-one meeting with a subject expert who can help you with specific grant application issues.

World Business Chicago’s Empower Series

The Empower Series is aimed at assisting businesses through a series of in-person and virtual seminars organized by World Business Chicago's Community Impact team. Each seminar or event has a specific theme that caters to the needs of business owners in Chicago's South & West Side.

Forefront’s Mission Sustainability Initiative (MSI) Info Session (Virtual)

Forefront is Illinois’ statewide association representing both grantmakers and nonprofits, as well as their advisors and allies. Their mission is to build a vibrant social impact sector for all the people of Illinois. They provide education, advocacy, thought leadership, and facilitate collective action around issues that are important to our Members and to the sector. The Mission Sustainability Initiative (MSI) at Forefront is here to help nonprofits explore strategic partnerships. Join the MSI’s new director, Kate Piatt-Eckert, for a conversation about what we mean by “strategic partnerships” and how to take advantage of MSI services and support.

GRANT FUNDS:

Flexible Funding Program 

Full Application: Dependent on flexible funding type

Equitable investment in neighborhoods cannot happen without the leadership of community-based organizations. That means these organizations need access to funding that is focused solely on the state of the organization rather than its programs and initiatives. The Flexible Funding Program provides three distinct types of “flexible” dollars to organizations in Black and Latinx neighborhoods.

To receive Flexible Funding support, the organization must be Black or Latinx-led, and its work must align with the Trust’s Catalyzing Neighborhood Investment strategy.

Back to Business (B2B) Grants for Creative Arts, Hotels & Restaurants

Applications open April 5, 2023 through May 10, 2023 - First Come First Served 

The Back to Business (B2B) grant program provides recovery grants for businesses in the hardest-hit industries.  Through the state’s B2B and Business Interruption Grant (BIG) Programs, DCEO has provided more than $535 million to more than 15,000 businesses since the start of the pandemic.

Eligible restaurants, hotels and creative arts businesses are eligible to apply for $175 million in available grant funding as part of our efforts to support ongoing recovery in hard-hit industries. All applicants will receive a grant as long as they meet eligibility requirements, submit proper documentation and attestations required by the program.

Clean Energy to Communities Program 

Application Deadline: Rolling 

C2C connects local governments, tribes, electric utilities, and community-based organizations with national laboratory experts and customized, cutting-edge analysis to achieve clean energy systems that are reflective of local and regional priorities.
