Local Business Spotlight - Josh Beaton Photography

Meet Josh Beaton, owner of Josh Beaton Photography. He photographs in a very dramatic, moody style that could live on the pages of any current fashion magazine. His favorite part about his job is seeing the confidence shine through his clients once they see their portraits. Read our interview with Josh to learn more about how he started his business and hobbies he has outside of his work.

Give us a small backstory of how your business started.

I've been taking photos for many years, but I decided to take my photography business seriously in January of 2020. That was unfortunate timing with everything that happened this past year. So I am considering 2021 as a rebirth for the business.

What are some of your favorite moments of running your business?

I love seeing the look on people's faces when they see themselves in the photos. The wonder of "is that really me?" The self confidence that comes rushing into them is amazing.

Do you have any hobbies that you do outside of running your business?

I have too many hobbies really. I love spending time with my wife and kids, but I also enjoy creating art of all kinds. I have recently started taking a sewing class, so we'll see where that goes. I want to make some gowns for my photo studio wardrobe.

What is one of the best pieces of advice you have received? 

The advice wasn't really for me, but for everyone. It is from the great philosopher, Jim Carrey. He said, "You can fail at what you don't want, so you might as well take a chance at doing what you love."

What are the best ways people can support your business right now?

Come in and get your portrait taken! It is a great time to feel a little pampering and to get a luxury, magazine-style portrait that will last generations.
