Business Spotlight - Capital One Cafe
Meet the team at Capital One Café on Southport Ave, a community hub where anyone is welcome to come in and enjoy the space. They even offer free financial planning programs to help you build a plan to achieve your goals in life. Read our interview to find out some fun facts you may not know about the cafe and some of the teams favorite local spots!
Give us a small backstory of how your business started?
Capital One was founded on the belief that no one should be locked out of the financial system. We’re dedicated to helping foster a world where everyone has an equal opportunity to prosper.
What are some of your favorite moments of working at your business?
Some of our favorite moments working at the Southport Cafe is being able to engage with the community through our events. It gives us a chance to become more ingrained in our community and learn from one another. Our favorite moments locally include Low-line Market, Taco Fest, Halloween on Southport, and the Holiday Stroll. We really enjoy facilitating financial education courses to help serve our community and promote financial well-being.
What is one thing that many people may not know about you or your business? One thing that people may not know about our business is that we’re not just here to help Capital One customers, we’re a community hub where anyone is welcome to come in and enjoy the space. For example, our signature Money & Life Program, a free program that helps you build a plan to achieve your goals in life—and think through how your financial behaviors connect to those goals is available to anyone, whether you bank with us or not. Another thing that people may not realize is our commitment to local non-profits and doing what we can (big and small) to better our community.
What are some hobbies you do outside of working at your business?
A few things the team here loves to do outside of work is to try new restaurants, take our dogs (Frenchie and Shih Tzu) for walks and shop local! We also like to play golf, write, listen and play music, work on cars & race at the track in the suburbs.
What are some businesses you love in Lakeview or Roscoe Village?
Our favorite businesses would have to be Southport Grocery and Art of Pizza, nothing beats a four dollar slice of Chicago deep dish. We also love Southloop Market which has everything you need and the staff is always friendly and personable. Lastly, Bitter Pops is such a cool spot to get a beverage and catch up with a friend!
What are the best ways people can support your business right now?
Recently Capital One Café launched a virtual event series and hub that houses conversations about values, relationships and balance and their intersection with money, as well as resources about our Money & Life Program. In addition to visiting our hub, we invite you to come in and experience the Café. It’s a space where you can focus on personal or community growth, find ways to simplify your finances, or kick back and relax in comfy spaces - all with your favorite coffee drink and snack in hand.
