Allyship Check-In: More Ways to Celebrate Black History Month
Allyship check-in! What work have you done to honor Black History Month and elevate Black voices? Here are a few more ways you can celebrate this month - so you can continue to celebrate EVERY month!
Read a book. Preorder a copy of “Change Sings”, written by the incredible Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman to be released in September. This children’s book is sure to be an inspiration for the next generation while representing diversity in literature. You can preorder a copy from Building Blocks Toys or visit RoscoeBooks to check out their selection of books written by Black authors.
Read a book…with wine. Say goodbye to the days of sourdough starter and banana bread and pick up a book club bundle from Foxtrot. They’ve partnered with Black women-owned bookstore Semicolon Chicago to bring you the perfect pairings of boozy drinks with food and bev books from Black authors.
Download an app. The BOB App is a Black business/community resource directory across various industries and mobile platforms to promote products, education, and resources for Black consumers. Find the B.O.B. Chicago app on Playstore and App Store and send us your recs!
Join a community organizing group. Be on the frontlines of creating change by joining a community organizing group or volunteering with a social justice organization. Check out CARE, the direct-action organizing arm of Lakeview’s own Black Queer-led Lighthouse Foundation to get involved in your neighborhood today.
